An Incubation program for Nigerian Queer Digital Creators

The Queercity Media and Productions Lagos, Nigeria invites LGBT+ West African content creators, digital artists, and creatives at large to harness a creative think tank whose work seeks to further the creative, social, political, and economic liberation of LGBT+ Nigerians.

Tinkers Tank is a 6 weeks digital incubation program for LGBT+ content creators in Lagos, Nigeria to learn, develop and re-evaluate their creative endeavors. This program provides a collective opportunity for creative, technical, and infrastructural support for LGBT+ creatives living and working in Lagos, Nigeria to further create.

Queer creatives in the context of Tinkers Tank 1.0 is not limited to already existing LGBT+ photographers, podcasters, illustrators, vloggers, and journalists. but also open to new creatives, experimenting creatives, and creative executives who question/engage queer content creation in Nigeria. What role do LGBT+-centered content creations and creators have to play in the public opinion of LGBT+ persons? How does it manifest in the daily lives of LGBT+ persons living in Nigeria and the level of societal acceptance? What are the historical traces of Queerness in Lagos and the future of Queer-centered documentation in Nigeria as a country? What practical uses of LGBT+ centered content in social and political movements in the country? Creating content for possible change?  How does a Queer creator manifest themselves artistically in modern-day Nigeria?”

Application Deadlines:

  • Cohort 1 (October/November 2022) Hybrid: 11:59pm WAT, August 20th. 2022
  • Cohort 2 (February/March 2023) Hybrid: Opens 11:59pm WAT, August 20th. 2022 and closes at 11:59 pm WAT, November 18th, 2022

Note: Late submissions will not be considered. Successful applicants will be notified on the website by October 2022 and January 2023 respectively.

  1. How do you define yourself as a Queer creative in Nigeria and what is the most essential part of your creative process (max 2 pages or a 2 minutes audio or video)
  2. Biography or CV
  3. Where in Lagos do you live?
  4. Any three links to your work or portfolio you think are relevant to this application.
